Uncertainty reigns after $63.5 million jury verdict against Miami Commissioner

by The 100 Companies

A Broward jury’s finding that Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo owes two business owners $63.5 million for violating their First Amendment rights raises the curtain on a new drama: Who will pay?

The city has already spent $2 million on Carollo’s legal fees. And Miami City Hall still faces a separate, $28 million suit that William Fuller and Martin Pinilla, owners of Little Havana’s Ball & Chain nightclub, filed.

Fuller and Pinilla say their business was targeted for code violations as part of a vendetta that Carollo pursued after they supported his opponent in a 2017 race for the City Commission.
