The race to represent a House District that covers Highland Beach and Boca Raton promises to be another barn-burner in money raised, if the opening haul of the Democratic candidate Jay Shooster is any indicator.

The 2022 contest between the incumbent Republican, Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman, and Boca Raton Councilman Andy Thompson was the most expensive state House race in South Florida. And it’s on track to repeat that as Shooster’s campaign has announced it has raised nearly $300,000 between his personal account and his political committee.

The district had long been in the Democrats’ column until Gossett-Seidman flipped it red.
