Former Rep. Juan-Carlos “J.C.” Planas is running to be Miami-Dade’s first voter-chosen Supervisor of Elections since 1957.
The Cuba-born ethics and elections lawyer, who served in the Florida House 2002-2010, is running to succeed appointed Supervisor of Elections Christina White. White isn’t seeking election next year.
Planas said he’ll “keep our elections free, fair and safe” while “building on (Miami-Dade’s) legacy, preserving our democracy and making sure voters’ voices are heard.”
He faces at least one Democratic Primary opponent: consultant and former North Miami Chief of Staff Willis Howard.
Republican Ruth Swanson, a vocal 2020 election denier, is running too.
