Miami-Dade has an overabundance of adult day care centers in some places and a shortage elsewhere, according to a proposed ordinance that would limit them to one every 1,000 feet.
County Commissioners gave preliminary approval to the measure, sponsored by René García. It does not specify where there are problems of too many or few centers.
It will next undergo committee review before returning to the full panel for a final vote.
“While these facilities serve an important function,” the measure says, they “have a negative impact on the surrounding community when overconcentrated,” leading to traffic congestion and other issues.
