The third Broward County Schools Superintendent in three years was sworn into his new job Tuesday.
After serving as a leader in Palm Beach County schools, Peter Licata comes to the sixth-largest school district after stormy exits of the previous two leaders of the 254,000-student system.
Superintendent Robert Runcie departed under a cloud after being indicted for lying to a grand jury investigating failures that preceded the state’s worst school shooting. His successor, Vickie Cartwright, agreed to part ways with the district after much tumult surrounding her style.
Licata, under a three-year contract, will be paid $350,000 a year.
