A federal Judge has tossed Miami’s map of City Commission districts, siding with local groups who sued over what they alleged was racial gerrymandering.
In its place, U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore Sunday adopted an alternative map the groups and ACLU of Florida proposed should be used ahead of the city’s November election.
The new map features more compact versions of Miami’s five districts and places Commissioner Joe Carollo’s Coconut Grove home outside his district.
Carollo, who was ordered in June to pay $63 million in damages for harassing businessmen in his district, said he’s considering legal action.
