Two pieces of legislation honoring the late Florida troubadour Jimmy Buffett took a “lovely cruise” forward this week when a Senate committee advanced them with uniform support.
The first, by Davie Democratic Sen. Lauren Book, would designate State Road A1A from Key West – his longtime home – to the state line as “Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway.” The bill would also allocate $23,400 to install markers on the thoroughfare.
The second measure by Stuart Republican Sen. Gayle Harrell would create a “Margaritaville” license plate. Proceeds from the specialty plate’s sales would go to Singing for Change, a charitable foundation Buffett founded in 1995.
