Florida is opening a new office at Florida Atlantic University to examine how businesses here can better and more healthily capitalize on its oceanic resources.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a sweeping education bill that largely focused on accelerating conversions of traditional public schools to charter schools. A less-discussed section will create the Office of Ocean Economy to support research and innovation for expanding Florida’s seaward industries.
“We are establishing the infrastructure needed to ensure a stable, robust economy for generations to come,” Boca Raton Democratic Rep. Kelly Skidmore, who championed legislation to create the office since 2022, told Florida Politics.
