Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz has introduced the Disaster Relief Fund Replenishment Act of 2024 to ensure the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) doesn’t run out of funding.

The fund, issued after major disasters around the country, is set to run out in August in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Moskowitz, Florida’s former Emergency Management Director, said the fund shouldn’t be “politicized or used as a bargaining chip.” His legislation would allocate $7 billion to the fund before August ends.

“We know this fund is going to run out,” he said, “and Congress needs to be proactive.”
