One of Florida’s largest unions is backing three Democrats vying for Miami-Dade offices.
SEIU Florida, which represents 80,000 health care, education, aviation and government workers, announced endorsements this week of ex-state Sen. Anette Taddeo and former state Reps. J.C. Planas and David Richardson.
Taddeo is running to unseat Republican Clerk Juan Fernandez-Barquin, whom Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed last year after longtime Clerk Harvey Ruvin died.
Planas and Richardson are running to be Miami-Dade’s first voter-chosen Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector, respectively. Both posts were previously filled by mayoral appointment. Voters upended that arrangement with a 2018 constitutional amendment.
