Gov. DeSantis suspends Hialeah Councilwoman after federal fraud indictment

Angelica Pacheco didn’t last a year on the Hialeah City Council.

Gov. Ron DeSantis removed Pacheco, who won her seat in an upset victory last November, after a grand jury indicted her for health care fraud. The move came less than a week after she surrendered to the FBI. She’s now out on bond.

Pacheco, a 37-year-old nurse, is charged with falsely billing private insurers millions of dollars for medically unnecessary procedures through her addiction treatment center.

She’s pleading not guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and multiple health care fraud and wire fraud charges.
