Joe Saunders sues to stop aunt from running against him as ‘Moe Saunders’

Former Democratic Rep. Joe Saunders is taking his no-party aunt, Maureen Saunders Scott of St. Johns County, to court to stop her effort to derail his House District 106 candidacy in Miami-Dade County.

Scott changed her name last month to “Moe Saunders,” raising questions about a potential ghost candidate scheme and the efficacy of a new state law that should’ve prevented the name change.

Florida Politics revealed Scott is Saunders’ relative and that she filed, in part, to publicize family abuse allegations she says Saunders helped conceal.

Saunders has since sued Scott to stop her from using the misleading moniker.
