Winner: FIU
Florida International University has gained preeminent status, joining the University of Florida, Florida State University and the University of South Florida in achieving that designation, per metrics outlined by the state.
FIU is the youngest of those institutions to reach preeminence, which lets the university access $25 million in state funding.
Loser: Michael Grieco
The Florida Supreme Court suspended Grieco’s law license after a Florida Bar probe found the former Democratic lawmaker made “multiple false or misleading statements” related to a campaign finance investigation.
A referee recommended a 90-day suspension, but the court landed on a one-year suspension.
