Broward businessman Kirill Gordei is in trouble for allegedly smuggling technology to help Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Court records show Gordei, a Belarus citizen and President of Hallandale Beach-based Apelsin Logistics, is accused of exporting a $600,000 mass spectrometer used to speed scientific discoveries.
The device can detect chemicals, explosives and narcotic compounds. It’s one of several banned technologies that can only be sent to Russia with a license.
Authorities arrested Gordei last month. He faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit offenses against the U.S.
Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen said Gordei placed “personal profit over national security.”
