Cuba’s security tour at Miami airport was routine, TSA officials tell dubious House panel

Transportation Security Administration officials say a widely criticized May tour Cuban delegates took of Miami International Airport security areas was normal.

Cuban officials received six similar tours of MIA since 2011, including during Donald Trump’s administration, TSA Executive Assistant Administrator Melanie Harvey told a House security panel.

Harvey acknowledged the TSA didn’t properly notify Miami-Dade of the recent visit and would make “sure that does not happen again.”

That’s not the issue, said Republican U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez, Miami-Dade’s immediate past Mayor. Cuba is a state sponsor of terrorism, he said, and showing them sensitive airport areas is “insane.”
