Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava says her administration will examine how security and crowd control shortcomings led to bedlam at the Copa América Final so it won’t happen at future Hard Rock Stadium events – including the 2026 World Cup.
Fans rushed gates, fought security personnel and climbed into windows and ventilation ducts to gain access. Some trashed the facility. Dozens were arrested. Some ticketholders never got into the venue. The game started more than an hour late.
“We are outraged,” Levine Cava said.
Copa América’s parent company was responsible for security. Miami-Dade still assigned over 550 officers to the event.
