An effort to protect Florida’s most populous region against climate change is getting $19.5 million in federal startup funding, the White House announced.
The money will finance development of the South Florida ClimateReady Tech Hub, one of 12 nationwide to receive $504 million combined this month.
“This investment … will enable us to confront the climate crisis head-on,” said Daniella Levine Cava, Mayor of Miami-Dade, one of numerous local governments and entities involved in the effort.
Over the next decade, the hub is expected to generate approximately $41 billion in new revenue while tackling climate issues like extreme heat and flooding.
