Miami-Dade voters this year will be able to weigh in on the prospect of expanding public internet access to all corners of the county.
Commissioners unanimously OK’d a resolution by Kionne McGhee to place a nonbinding question on the Nov. 5 ballot asking whether the county should extend its free Wi-Fi program countywide.
Miami-Dade today offers free Wi-Fi on Metrobus and Metrorail vehicles, at public parks and county libraries, and through hotspot kits that libraries loan.
McGhee told Florida Politics that broadening access would have a “profound” impact on residents’ financial sustenance and growth.
“It’s a game changer,” he said.
