No-party candidate Maureen Saunders Scott won’t appear on the November ballot as “Moe Saunders,” a moniker the Division of Elections approved in June despite its similarity to that of her House District 106 opponent (and nephew), Democrat Joe Saunders.
Instead, she’ll run as “Mo Saunders Scott,” a compromise agreed to after a one-day Miami-Dade County Courthouse hearing.
Judge Robert Watson denied Saunders’ effort to block Scott from running after she proved she’d gone by “Moe” and “Mo” for years.
Scott, a St. Johns County resident, and Saunders, a former Orlando lawmaker, are running to unseat Miami Beach Rep. Fabián Basabe.
