Miami-Dade’s State Attorney’s Office is looking into voter fraud complaints in Surfside.
While an “overwhelming amount” of the complaints were found to be baseless, others are still being examined, Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney Tim VanderGiesen said.
In the leadup to the town’s March election, Mayor Charles Burkett, who unseated then-Mayor Shlomo Danzinger, accused Danzinger of using local synagogues to register voters who did not live in Surfside.
Danzinger last month declared he and “over 100” Jewish Surfside voters were under investigation.
The State Attorney’s Office said the probe includes no religious inquiry, nor is Danzinger a person of interest.
