Republicans float changes after criminally charged members win Executive Committee seats

Some leading Florida GOP members are talking about updating party bylaws so if the Governor removes a criminally charged member from office, that member can’t run for party leadership while facing charges.

Three indicted Republicans won seats recently on the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee: former U.S. Rep. David Rivera, ex-Miami Commissioner Alex Díaz de la Portilla and former Hialeah Councilwoman Angelica Pacheco.

DeSantis removed the latter two.

“You’re innocent until proven guilty,” said Miami-Dade GOP Chair and Hialeah Rep. Alex Rizo. “But if (the) Governor suspended you … shouldn’t the same rules apply when it comes to the party?”
