Calls are mounting for a Special Session on high costs associated with Florida’s new condominium safety laws. Republican Miami Rep. Vicki Lopez, one of the legislation’s architects, said now is too soon.
For a correct fix, Lopez believes Florida needs more data from reserve studies all condo associations must finish by Dec. 31.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, CFO Jimmy Patronis and others said action is needed sooner. So far, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo has said no.
Reports have detailed how condo owners, mostly in South Florida, are selling and fleeing due to soaring costs.
Lopez said no-interest state loans could help them.
