Eschewing partisanship, former Miami-Dade Commissioner backs Annette Taddeo for Clerk

Former Miami-Dade Commissioner Juan Zapata is going against his former political party and endorsing Democrat Annette Taddeo, a fellow Colombian American, for county Clerk and Comptroller.

Zapata, a Republican-turned-independent who was the first Colombian American to serve on the County Commission and in the Florida House, said the Clerk job “isn’t about partisan politics.”

“It’s about delivering accountability to the people of Miami-Dade efficiently with trust, transparency and a proven ability to protect how our money is spent,” he said.

Taddeo, a former state Senator, is running to supplant Juan Fernandez-Barquin, a Republican ex-lawmaker whom Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed in 2023.
