Miami-Dade is moving forward with a plan to convert a Cutler Bay hotel into subsidized housing for older unsheltered people.
County Commissioners approved a Miami-Dade Homeless Trust proposal to acquire and retrofit a 107-room La Quinta Inn for nearly $15 million. Ron Book, the Homeless Trust’s longtime Chair, said it’ll house approximately 140 unhoused people 55 and older.
“We are on an urgent mission to humanely assist those on our streets as a new law prohibiting public camping and sleeping goes into effect,” he said. “We want to ensure that vulnerable individuals in their later years can age with dignity.”
