Miami Commissioners just ensured they’ll be paid long after leaving office.
Joe Carollo, Miguel Gabela and Christine King voted for a measure enabling officials elected after Oct. 1, 2021, to begin receiving up to half their highest yearly compensation from the city once they’re in their 60s.
They must have served for at least seven years to qualify for the optional program. Eligible recipients will see a 5% annual increase until their pensions match their best in-office salary, now about $100,000, plus a 3% yearly cost-of-living increase.
Damian Pardo and Manolo Reyes voted against the plan. Pardo called it “self-dealing.”
