Two are competing to become Miami-Dade’s first voter-chosen Elections Supervisor.
One candidate is state Rep. Alina Garcia, a longtime GOP operative now serving in her first House term. She faces J.C. Planas, an elections and ethics lawyer who served four House terms as a Republican before switching parties following Donald Trump’s impeachment, citing Trump’s lies that the 2020 election was stolen.
Trump endorsed Garcia, who has expressed doubts about whether other states properly tallied votes in the last presidential election.
The winner will replace appointed Supervisor Christina White, whom Planas said he’ll try to hire if he is victorious.
