Miami Republican Rep. Daniel Perez is shaking up the Florida House’s committee apparatus as he takes over as Speaker.
He’s replacing the Appropriations Committee with a new Budget Committee and subcommittees focused on examining and reining in state spending.
Also gone are subcommittees under the Education and Employment Committee. They will be swapped for panels weighing in on education matters from the pre-K level to universities.
Two other major additions are coming: an Information Technology Budget and Policy Subcommittee to retool Florida’s IT investments, and a Security and Threat Assessment Committee focused on dangers to law enforcement, cybersecurity and government.
