Winner: Brian Mast
Mast will be the next Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, emerging as a dark horse late in the process to succeed U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul.
Mast, a veteran who lost his legs in Afghanistan, also leads the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight.
Loser: Jerry Joseph
After Alex Rizo made a surprise announcement that he wasn’t seeking to lead the Miami-Dade Republican Party for another term, Joseph threw his hat in the ring to replace Rizo.
But he fell far short, losing to Miami-Dade GOP Vice Chair Kevin Cooper via a vote of 83-15.
