Former U.S. Rep. David Rivera faces a second set of criminal charges for not registering as a foreign agent while lobbying Donald Trump’s administration on behalf of Venezuelan entities.
A grand jury indicted Rivera for allegedly seeking the removal of U.S. sanctions against billionaire Raúl Gorrín, who was charged for bribing Venezuelan officials during deals to embezzle funds from Nicolas Maduro’s regime.
Rivera earned $5.5 million for his work, The Associated Press reported.
Police previously arrested Rivera, a one-term Congressman, for an alleged $50 million scheme in 2017 to engender favor for Maduro’s government with Trump’s incoming administration.
