David Borrero refiles bill to ban flags with a ‘political viewpoint’ from government sites

David Borrero of Sweetwater is again carrying legislation to curb flag use at public facilities.

He and fellow Republican Rep. Berny Jacques filed HB 75, which would prohibit government offices and school campuses from displaying banners representing a “political viewpoint.”

That includes a “political partisan, racial, sexual orientation and gender, or political ideology viewpoint,” said the measure, which would not extend to the right of a “private individual” to carry a flag.

Republican Sen. Randy Fine, who filed the bill’s companion, said the bill targets Palestinian, Black Lives Matter and “pro-grooming” flags, which “have no place in our taxpayer-funded buildings.”
