Mario Knapp, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department who ran for Sheriff last year, is now leading the police force of the county’s second-oldest city.
He was sworn in at a crowded City Hall ceremony as the new Chief of the Homestead Police Department. He succeeds Alexander Rolle Jr., who joined the agency in 1979 and served as its top cop for more than a quarter-century.
Knapp told Florida Politics he has long admired Homestead for being a leader in law enforcement. Now as Police Chief, he hopes to expand the Department in proportion to the city’s growth.
