Unaddressed issues persist in Florida’s condo crisis, and according to engineers, lawyers, accountants and real estate professionals who recently spoke with lawmakers, urgent legislative action is needed.
Money’s a major obstacle. A “cottage industry” has sprouted up to meet the state’s new building inspection demands, with ample opportunity for malfeasance. Many more buildings not currently required to be inspected likely also have structural problems.
Most of the state’s condos are in South Florida.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has called for a Special Session on Jan. 27 so lawmakers can, among other things, tackle condo repair cost issues and other “unintended” effects.
