Broward College has a new President: Torey Alston, a former appointed member of the Broward County School Board.
The college’s Board of Trustees unanimously selected Alston – whom voters ousted from the School Board last August, two years after Gov. Ron DeSantis installed him there – to lead the institution.
All Board of Trustees members are DeSantis appointees, too.
Alston beat co-finalist Jose Llontop for the job. His selection as President won bipartisan plaudits.
It’s the latest in a series of leadership changes at the college. Alston takes over for Interim President Donald Astrab, who succeeded Acting President Barbara Bryan in May 2024.
