Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett is planning to run for Governor.
He plans to campaign on policy, not political posturing.
“I’m going to put my positions out there, and if voters think that’s something they want, that’s fine,” he said. “If not, that’s OK too.”
Burkett was Mayor from 2006-2010 and 2020-2022, when he led Surfside through COVID and the aftermath of a devastating condo collapse. After one term out of office, voters re-elected him last year.
He has no party affiliation. His priorities include lowering taxes, halting gambling expansion, environmental stewardship and limiting housing development until more traffic solutions arrive.
