Less than three years after he won his seat, Kevin Marino Cabrera resigned this week from the Miami-Dade Commission and was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to Panama.
The move followed his Senate confirmation on a 51-45 vote along party lines.
In a letter to Miami-Dade Clerk Juan Fernandez-Barquin, Cabrera, 34, called serving at County Hall “the honor of a lifetime.”
“As an Ambassador, I will work to ensure that our foreign policy advances American interests and makes our nation stronger, safer and more prosperous,” he said. “Though my role is changing, Miami-Dade County will always be my home.”
