Flags flew at half-mast across Miami-Dade County on Gov. Ron DeSantis’ orders this week in honor of Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes, who died Friday at 80.
Reyes served as a City Commissioner since 2017 and won his most recent re-election effort with 86% of the vote. Serving as an elected official was a “lifelong dream fulfilled,” his family said in a statement.
The remaining four members of the Miami Commission are scheduled to convene Thursday to decide whether to appoint someone to serve out the remainder of Reyes’ four-year term or hold a Special Election to determine who should replace him.
