Democrats slam María Elvira Salazar for blaming SCOTUS, not Donald Trump, for Venezuelans losing TPS

House Democrats are blasting Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar for condemning a Supreme Court ruling ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans without criticizing who’s behind it.

The court upheld the authority of President Donald Trump’s administration to revoke TPS, a move Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem backed.

While Salazar said she was “deeply disappointed” by the decision and urged Trump to grant Deferred Enforced Departure instead, Democrats accused her of political posturing.

“Salazar is grossly ineffective … or she’s simply lying,” a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesperson said.

Florida, particularly Salazar’s Miami-Dade district, has the nation’s largest Venezuelan population.
