For the first time in history, there are more active Republican voters in Miami-Dade than Democrats.
Following its off-year voter roll maintenance, the Miami-Dade Elections Department switched 351,868 voters to “inactive” status, meaning they haven’t voted in the past two federal election cycles.
That set the new “active” numbers at 449,337 Republican, 414,680 Democrat and 417,144 third- or no-party voters.
Registered Miami-Dade Democrats still technically outnumber Republicans by about 41,000 voters, since “inactive” doesn’t mean deactivated. However, “inactive” voters rarely return to “active status.” And after two more cycles of non-voting, “inactive” voters are removed from the voter rolls altogether.
