Ethics report: Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick may have violated House rules, federal law

by katem

Democratic U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick remains under an ethics investigation, with a recent report suggesting she may have broken the law, but is likely innocent of at least two allegations.

The Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC) found “substantial reason to believe” Cherfilus-McCormick sought community project funding for a for-profit entity, potentially breaching House standards. She also may have eschewed campaign finance strictures by accepting donations linked to official actions.

But the OCC found no reason to believe she granted special funding favors to friends or misreported campaign contributions.

No violations have officially been determined. Cherfilus-McCormick has denied any wrongdoing.
