Miami mayoral candidate Michael Hepburn is threatening legal action if City Commissioners advance a plan to delay this year’s municipal elections to 2026 without voter approval.
The controversial proposal would extend the terms of current officials by one year to align city elections with state and federal contests, which proponents say will reduce costs and increase turnout.
Hepburn argued the change would further alienate voters displeased with those in office. He vowed to sue with attorney Ben Crump and pursue recall campaigns if the change passes without public input.
The Commission is voting June 12 on the election date change.
