Delray Beach to get $15M settlement over ‘forever chemicals’ contamination

by The 100 Companies

Delray Beach has secured a $15 million settlement from chemical giants 3M and DuPont, which the city sued after water tests found elevated levels of PFAS, commonly known as “forever chemicals.”

The award is timely. Delray Beach is building a next-gen water treatment facility to align with new Environmental Protection Agency standards. The $280 million plant is currently projected to be operational by 2027.

PFAS exposure is linked to cancer, hormone disruption and immune issues. Commissioner Rob Long, who advocated early for acting on the issue, called the settlement a “major milestone” that will help Delray Beach “provide clean, affordable water.”
