Ex-Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie had all felony perjury charges dropped the day his trial was to begin, ending a legal saga around his 2021 grand jury testimony about the Parkland shooter and a $1 billion school safety bond.
Under a plea-like agreement, he acknowledged unclear statements, agreed to pay prosecution costs and must avoid legal trouble for six months.
Prosecutors argued Runcie lied about speaking with staff about the bond and an investigation involving a former tech chief.
A judge tossed the case over jurisdiction issues in 2023. That decision was reversed on appeal before the state dropped the case.
