Winner: Joe Abruzzo
Abruzzo will serve as the Palm Beach County Administrator after being chosen to succeed Verdenia Baker by the County Commission. Abruzzo moves to the appointed role after being elected as Clerk of Court and Comptroller in 2020 and re-elected in 2024.
He’ll make up to $450,000 per year.
Loser: Undocumented immigrants
After much back-and-forth, the city of Miami has OK’d an immigration enforcement agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The 287(g) agreement will give local police immigration enforcement powers.
The move comes amid threats by the state to punish localities that refuse to adopt such arrangements.
