After a contentious discussion, Coral Gables Commissioners rejected member Melissa Castro’s proposal to repeal a recent ordinance moving the city’s General Elections from April to November without prior voter approval.
Mayor Vince Lago, Vice Mayor Rhonda Anderson and Commissioner Richard Lara then voted to censure Castro for not conferring with them before seeking a legal opinion from Attorney General James Uthmeier, who has warned Miami against a similar change.
The trio chastised Castro for taking a “rogue action” that could imperil the city’s standing with state officials.
Castro vowed to do it again “a thousand times” to defend “residents’ rights.”
