Just four months before voters were to choose a new Mayor and two other City Hall officials, the Miami Commission narrowly approved postponing its General Election to November 2026.
Commissioners Christine King and Ralph Rosado joined Damian Pardo, who proposed the delay, in voting “yes.” Joe Carollo and Miguel Gabela voted “no.”
The change, if it stands, will give all Commissioners and Mayor Francis Suarez an extra year in office while denying 17 others running for office a timely result for their efforts.
Attorney General James Uthmeier has already threatened legal action, arguing the county charter requires approval by city voters.
