Democratic Rep. Joe Casello, 73, died last Friday after suffering a heart attack. He left a legacy of service and compassionate leadership.
A retired firefighter and ex-Boynton Beach Commissioner, Casello served three full House terms. He won a fourth in November.
One of his most significant legislative achievements was backing the measure that established Florida’s Purple Alert system, which helps find missing adults with mental or cognitive disabilities.
“Joe was a good man,” House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said. “He was a gentle giant in the Florida House who rarely spoke up, but everyone stopped and listened when he did.”
