After courts agreed last month that Miami unlawfully rescheduled its election to 2026, Coral Gables Commissioner Melissa Castro is again urging her City Hall colleagues to reverse a similar move.
Coral Gables Commissioners voted 3-2 in May to shift city elections from April in odd-numbered years to November in even-numbered years.
This month, Castro requested a special meeting to undo the change, citing elections lawyer J.C. Planas’ opinion that Coral Gables could incur lawsuits from voters who didn’t approve it.
Castro’s peers shot down the request. The matter will be taken up at the Commission’s next regular meeting Aug. 26.
