Coral Gables Mayor, local radio station ‘amicably’ settle defamation lawsuit

by The 100 Companies

Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago has settled a defamation lawsuit against Actualidad Media Group over false on-air claims that he was under a county ethics probe.

The mediated settlement did not include a disclosed monetary sum. Sources familiar with the case said Actualidad agreed to pay “six figures.”

The dispute stemmed from a February 2023 radio segment in which host Robert Rodriguez Tejera and Coral Gables Commissioner Ariel Fernandez, a frequent Lago foe, said Lago was being investigated for violations tied to a proposed annexation.

The Ethics Commission was actually conducting a preliminary review, which it closed, finding no wrongdoing.
