Highland Beach Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman is renewing her push to restrict partisan political activity at colleges and universities.
She just reintroduced legislation (HB 49) to ban campaign signs, fundraising, candidate-focused and party-sponsored voter registration drives on school campuses, and activities implying school endorsements.
Candidate forums would be allowed only if all qualified contenders are invited, while student newspapers could publish endorsements with disclaimers.
Gossett-Seidman said a pending amendment will limit the bill to higher education but expand it to private institutions. Violations would carry misdemeanor penalties.
The proposal, similar to one that failed last Legislative Session, would take effect in July 2026.
