Miami Beach Commission candidate Monique Pardo Pope is facing scrutiny amid revelations that she is the daughter of executed serial killer Manuel Pardo, a former cop who murdered nine people in the 1980s and idolized Adolf Hitler.
Pardo Pope, a 44-year-old Republican lawyer, acknowledged the connection after documentarian Billy Corben highlighted it in a video last week. She said she prays for her father’s victims and chose forgiveness to move forward.
Critics questioned her decision to highlight her upbringing, without mentioning her father’s crimes, in campaign messaging.
She is among seven candidates seeking the Commission’s Group 1 seat on Nov. 4.
